The Abseil 1 training course

Our intro level training course has been revised and is now a two day abseiling instructional course built around nationally endorsed units. It covers basic abseiling technique and safety belays and, unlike most other abseiling 'adventure' days, there is a practical seminar on self rescue techniques using prusik hitches. If you require abseiling skills for adventure racing purposes, you should look at our adventure racing roping course.


The program is aimed at individuals or groups who want or need to learn basic abseiling & self rescue skills.

The course runs over two days or 16 contact hours.


The course identifies the following units:

SROABN001A Demonstrate simple abseiling skills

SROABN003A Apply single pitch abseiling skills on natural surfaces

SROABN004A Establish ropes for single pitch abseiling on natural surfaces


Endorsements may include:

Natural cliff

Artificial structure (e.g. climbing wall)

Single pitch applications

Multi pitch applications

Pre requisites & result

There are no pre-requisites for this program.


After finishing the course you will be able to confidently take part in an abseiling activity.  You will know basic techniques, belays and some self rescue methods.


A Statement of Attainment - Abseiling Techniques will be awarded upon completion of the assessment criteria.
