Wilderness Vertical Rescue A seven day (60 hour) comprehensive course covering all aspects of low and high angle wilderness rope rescue. Attending students should have some roping experience prior to this course but this is not essential. The WVR course is designed to give students a complete grounding in all aspects of rope rescue in a wilderness environment. We look at personal vertical mobility, situational awareness & planning for vertical rescue, equipment & PPE, knots hitches and rigging rescue anchor systems, mechanical advantage, raising & lowering systems, redundant belay and conditional single rope systems, artificial high directionals (AHDs) such a the Arizona Vortex Multipod, stretchers bridle rigging and patient packaging, attendant in-riding & out-riding setups as well as different types of offsets including Tyrolean highlines. This course is relatively strenuous & involves a number of intensive scenarios including a night activity. Students should be prepared to carry moderate loads into a number of escarpment locations and be self sufficient in regard to adverse weather clothing, illumination, food and water. All rescue equipment is supplied along with a comprehensive manual. Successful candidates receive a Statement of Attainment. |
Industrial Vertical Rescue The same seven day format as the WVR but set in an industrial rescue context and designed for industrial Emergency Response Teams. Ideally attending students will have previous industrial working at heights training & experience and be familiar with working in a harness & employing fall protection techniques. The IVR course looks extensively at potential rope rescue situations in an industrial setting and the associated situational awareness required to deal with variables such as low (or no) light, poor air & confined space issues, heat, noise, moving plant & traffic and so forth. A series of complex team scenarios are used to put into practice the theoretical basis of the program. This course is more strenuous than the WVR and participants should be prepared accordingly. All rescue equipment is supplied along with a comprehensive manual. Students are required to supply their own PPE (helmets, high visibility clothing, overalls, safety glasses, gloves, knee pads and respirators where appropriate). Successful candidates receive a Statement of Attainment. |
