About the VR1 Rescue Operator Course.

The VR1 course is all about rescue self sufficiency for your team on your worksite. Every aspect of vertical rescue and recovery is covered in this four to five day program - vertical mobility, anchors, raising & lowering systems, belays, rescue equipment, stretcher rigging, risk assessments and control of a rescue situation.

The VR1 course identifies the following units:

  • Conduct a risk assessment for working at height
  • Select, use & maintain equipment for working at height
  • Install an anchor system
  • Approach the work position using abseiling techniques
  • Demonstrate vertical mobility at height
  • Evacuate a person to safe ground using abseiling techniques
  • Install and operate a lowering system
  • Install & operate a hauling system
  • Install & operate a single rope belay system to safeguard a person

The units are delivered contextually within a framework of industrial rescue.

Students receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in Industrial Vertical Rescue on successful completion of the training & assessment.

 

Duration

  • Site specific or multi-site: 4/5 days (32 - 40 contact hours)

Minimum number of eight students per course. The course fee covers training resources, all rescue equipment, assessment, provision of Statements of Attainment.

 

Enrolment

  • Must be at least 17 years of age

  • Speak, read and understand the English language (unless accompanied by a skilled translator)

  • Fit and healthy for working at height

Location

  • On-the-job or at a designated SAR training facility.

Equipment

Existing personal (or workplace) PPE & rescue kit should be used for consistency, however SAR will supply the latest in rope rescue equipment on demand.

 

Qualification

Statement of Attainment in Working at Height (Vertical Rescue).
